The smart money who have been long are obviously taking profits. That is why they are smart.

And now that the gold price might be getting relatively cheap, they are selling it because it can only get even cheaper.

Here ends my exhaustive analysis of smart money.

If you are tracking XAUUSD this week, consider this technical perspective from a swing trader. XAUUSD market operation has made a bearish move to enter a significant horizontal support zone around 1757.80. A morning star pattern has formed on the XAUUSD daily time frame. Technically, this portends a bullish outlook. This may see price action retrace to the 1801.65 broken-down horizontal support (magenta), from which a bearish turnaround may result in a role flip for a southward continuation.

Looks like gold futures will be settling the week around $1725. Pretty critical support area around here. Gold prices still supported by long term fundamentals. Stock market is over-extended and bitcoin hasn't replaced gold as a safe-haven. Give it time.

Here's my take on the XAUUSD, from the technical perspective of a swing trader. Technical impulse on the XAUUSD daily time frame favours bears. However, the long bottom-shadow of the bearish print on Friday at the 1723.50 horizontal support area (green) indicates some resistance by bulls. We may see some northward move or sideways of price action in the early part of this week before a bearish continuation.

Do agree with KeenPips, retracement is likely after friday’s sell-off. Momentum is still there favouring downside.

There is, however, stimulus which has been passed in the House and is only a matter of days till passage in the Senate.
Markets have not seemed to price this advent in, which is an indication of either minimal reaction upon passage, or a continuation to the downside.

Feb closed bearish, such force toward the end of the week. So much so, I can forecast March to do the same. Volatility clusters.

Theme: Finally J Powel tamed down the market and laid down the path for interest rates, asset purchase and finally a pragmatic target for max unemployment.
Fundamental: Finally 10 year bond yield hit 1.557% ( at the time of writing) and Dollar is now reached to escape velocity!!!
Technical: 1680 is next support. I think now we have to really wait for pure reversal pattern on Daily to form to place longs!! Shorts on Gold are always risky!

Update!!

Missed by few points the target of 1680. I am anticipating that probably this is the lowest level (1687.14) we will see in 2021!!!

I still these this sell-off in gold as more of a correction (longer term) rather than a new overall direction. Long term fundamentals still support holding gold. Too much uncertainty out there. Not only is it a safe haven but there's also the hedge against inflation. Just my two sense. Good luck out there.
