99% of traders just use 1 day. I am not questioning whether or not there is validity to what you are using. Just whether or not someone else knows what it is the number represents.

Keep it straight.

BTW in case you hadn't noticed this is thread post# 11446 so wherever you might have mentioned previously daily/weekly/monthly formulas is way back buried in history here.

Guys - trading does not have to be high frequency. I would argue that this is a recipe for failure if you don't have the ability to move markets and trigger others' stops. There is a reason why most people fail as traders, and it has much to do with over-trading.

We will all find out how well Ravissek manages in the end. I would hope the equity in the balance exceeds $30,000 at the very least for such a substantial long position.

For now, please try to stop making silly arguments that people who wait for price to drop before adding significantly to their long positions are somehow not trading.

I am out of the markets for now - waiting on a few events that may justify another round of paper-based price manipulation.

If Ravissek manages to come out on top, which is in my opinion a higher probability event than a short-term trader's success, will you guys stop with the insults and negativity?

This is the worst analysis I have yet to come across on this entire forum.

Technical indicators are statistically insignificant due to the unpredictable nature of the paper trade and fundamental factors.

Otherwise, we'd have a lot more math professors quitting their day jobs and becoming ridiculously wealthy.

I'm all for you people who claim to "follow" price action, but any notion that technical indicators can predict future price is absolute rubbish.

As I said, if it were that easy, a basic course in statistics would prepare any Joe Dipstick for a life of luxury and riches.

Correct me if I am wrong.
It has all the value in the world, if assessed reasonably with attention given to other relevant factors.

What makes me laugh, are the countless numbers of people who believe "their" chart system is going to beat the market.

Just like people who get caught in a speculative bubble that is about to correct, these people are bound to lose their account balances.

If this were a realistic conversation, you would quickly admit that price action is determined by major paper traders in the short term and that the long-term is fairly unpredictable because supply demand curves eventually catch up with speculative fervor and bring bubbles back to earth, and panic sell price action back to reasonable levels.

We, at the sidelines, are rarely privy to a complete data set. You can choose to follow chart price action and look for clues from major money movers and this is valid.

But this does not mean Ravissek's strategy is invalid.

If anything, I think a combination of factors affect price in the short and long term. Smart traders should know this and avoid focusing exclusively on fundies or charts.

A successful chart-based system eventually fails when market conditions change.

Bears have an interest in disseminating anti-gold/silver rumours, but unless this analysis is backed up by real data on who is buying/selling physical and in what volumes, then I think the analysis is a waste of time.

If we follow chart-based analysis on commodities, we forget the fact that the planet has finite resources and that most new gold discoveries are yielding less. We forget the fact that BRIC and other developing countries have significant demand for inflation hedges. We also forget other factors such as the use of silver in solar panels, which increases industrial demand.

Slow growth or even recession does not mean all growth ceases. Silver and gold demand is not going to disappear because of a few rumour mill style reports that base their analysis entirely on price action.

Past price action never predicts future price action perfectly - especially if you are intentionally closing your eyes to fundamental factors. Otherwise we'd all be rich.

Time will tell, but the big bad bear hedge funds will likely be interested another run up of the price IMHO, and charts will not predict when this will happen, but will likely be used to justify whatever rumours they publish to feed into the bubble's growth.

I may be wrong, but any analysis based exclusively on price action and charts will not stand the test of time. Conditions change.
