b) the American people

Hey mate, not a great trader myself, but maybe I can chip in a little here to show you a different angle that may help with the confusion. The way I see it, it isn't just black/white with one paying or the other.. instead it is that both pay, but with another bit of 'how much'. Not to mention there are those that have been 'paying' and who will have to continue to 'pay', which are the young (those from mid 30's to being born now). Jr does a great job pointing out the corn and cattle, and the cost of living adjustment thing. This picture shows that in another way, median income vs the S&P 500. Wealth of corporations greatly increased, while worker compensation has not (at a similar rate and remains low). Another clue is looking at first year income vs cost of an average house... many may not even be able to afford that on a single income. Scary to think how this graph looks now in 2025. Hope everyone is having a good week

What you are saying in totally correct. Just did some quick calculations using CAGR - home 8.23% wages 4.25% over the same period. The SP500 for the same period 6.07%. Gold for the same period 5.74%. Corn 1.63%. Live Cattle 3.07%.
The big difference between all of that and the SP 500 is 3 main factors - Blackrock, State Street & Vanguard - just as Trump and his "associates" are in control of the US economy and more those 3 firms control much of the SP500, so we are all at their mercy to a certain degree ...
So where do you put your time, effort and money?
Invest in your own skill set because that will exceed all of the above.
PS The young always pay, I did and I am sure many will agree ... learn from mistakes and you can be a comfortable older person and help the younger ones.

Clearly I am one of those that needs to get educated ... never heard of such a beast ... only ever knew about shares that may pay dividends and may be fully franked, never heard of share paying interest unless you class capital growth as equiv. to interest ... can you give me an example so I can investigate ... thankyou

these share are put out like woolworths to build or expand , interest rates are to high so they they make these availible to the public and get a lower interest rate instead ,

Listed companies may issue various types of interest rate securities. These securities have a 4 or 5 or 6 character code. The 3 character issuer code will be the prefix followed by a character to identify the type of security for example H: unsecured note, G: convertible note and P: preference share.
A company may issue a series of a particular type of interest rate security. In this case it becomes necessary to be able to identify each particular series. Alpha characters are added sequentially to each series as they are issued. WOWHA represents the first unsecured note on issue by Woolworths Limited. CPAPB represents the second preference share issue by Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
