For many years, financial regulation mostly moved in one direction, increasingly restricting the banking sector. The size of the balance sheet right now proves the Fed should not exist. Markets near all time highs, economy expanding, high inflation. There is no reason the balance sheet is above zero. The balance sheet is there to use in times of great crisis, it is not a play thing for the Fed to use to pay for ridiculous levels of government overspending.
