    Economists have warned for months about rising inflation due to U.S. tariffs, but like the recent tsunami warnings from the Kamchatka earthquake, the danger has not come to pass. The calm waters might start to get a little rougher, though. A new wave of inflation is likely to course through the U.S. in the next several months, economists insist, as the costs of tariffs are absorbed by businesses or households. The first real sign of rising inflation came two weeks ago, with a sharp increase in the June PCE index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge. Economists estimate that while companies initially absorbed much of the tariff costs, a growing share (up to about 70% projected by Goldman Sachs economists) will be passed on to consumers over time, leading to higher retail prices and contributing to faster core inflation even if Powell doesn't want to cut rates. With this in mind, i expect no surprises today.
