I have seen here on Forex Factory of people saying Oanda trades against its clients. However, that is apparently not true. I went to the Oanda website and I found out that they do not trade against their clients. I will copy and paste below an excerpt from their website (I put it all in bold below) :

Does OANDA trade against its clients?

While some firms may take on exposure in the market on the gamble that their clients are going to make losing trades, OANDA aggregates exposure and hedges it with our partner banks. We are likely one the most conservative firms in this area, preferring to profit from the spread rather than taking speculative positions that oppose our clients.

Some people erroneously believe that OANDA might benefit from a client's losses. On the contrary, because exposure is hedged, we would lose a corresponding amount to our partner banks. Furthermore, traders who lose money have less money to use for trading and may reduce their trading activity. As a company, OANDA benefits most when its customers are trading.

Okay, why don't you tell me how someone "can find out the truth" of whether or not a broker trades against its clients?

And please don't tell me you will know just by opening an account with the broker and making trades. We all know about people of whom blame their broker for their losses. You probably blame your broker for "trading against" you whenever you have a losing trade.

Oanda have very strange analysis of the major news impact. They increased 8 times the spread for their wheat CFD because of the UK Inflation Report Hearings.

i have observed many times they increased exactly 8 times spread in forex pairs, stop hunter indeed.

It is strange to increase the spread for the wheat CFD at 4:30 PM (London time), because of the UK Inflation Report Hearings that start 15 minutes later. How the UK Inflation Report Hearings can affect the wheat prices? This is ridiculous.

Yes, happened to OANDA whenever there is a big news, like Fed Interest Rate Decision earlier today.

Yes I was stop out during the FED fund rate news. On Oanda, the USDCAD price went 2 pips below my stop loss but on Thinkforex, the lowest it went was 2 pips above my stop loss.

This was a 4 pips spread to stop hunt. I have complaint awaiting their reply.

Not sure if you are Aware of it, but Forex is an OTC market. Any broker can quote at any time any price they want.
Forex is a losers game.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. You have to expect that when there is major news.

I once had a 40 pip spread stop me out on NZD/USD in a period with no news, when I complained to Oanda they gave me a load of rubbish about liquidity.

No, not during news but all day. GBPJPY is one of my most traded pairs and usually runs between 2.2- 2.9 on the spread. All day yesterday it was around 3.8 and all morning (so far) its been between 4.3 and 5.5 pips spread !

Hi, i just made an account.

I have a question, maybe an OANDA (Europe) user can help me out.

Since September 16th I don't collect interest on my account anymore. I tried to find the source but to no success.

I know they changed this for US customers on May 2nd, but this clearly is in US only and was never ever announced for Europe.

Does anyone know the reason? Did this happen to anybody before?


As to OANDA spreads. I hope everybody knows, when signing up with a broker that uses VARIABLE spreads, for what reason the broker does this. hmmm try to trade GBP/NZD or EUR/NZD when the Kiwis announce their rate decision. they are sometimes up to 65+ pips LOL.
But they have some useful chart views, which can help you a lot when trying to figure out the hunting range of your broker ...
