I hope this to be my journal recording my progress in learning James16's method of Price Action (Pin Bars, BUOB, BEOB, etcetc) so that I may have somewhere to review my past trades, and hopefully members familiar with the J16 method might help me out from time to time!
My background. I started learning about trading in my last year of college (September 08) from a teacher who has helped a great deal in shaping my life and career goals. (I'm 23, btw) He was a big mutual fund trader back in the 80s/90s. I got hooked on stock trading. I read everything I could get my hands on in the next 6 months, and opened my first live account in March 09. I don't know how many Canadians are here, but it's called a TFSA - Tax Free Savings Account. I made some money in it. It was a mix of my research, chat room calls, and other junk I came up with. Certainly not a sustainable way to trade, but I learned some money management, how to use stop losses and trailing stops, and how crazy penny stocks are! (both good and bad!)
I went to work at a prop trading firm in July for a month, before realizing I needed to learn a LOT more if I were to get good at this game. I left there with the intention to do just that.
Anywho. I stumbled upon FF and J16 while searching for reviews on Van Tharp's Trading courses. http://www.forexfactory.com/showthre...t=76741&page=1 I started to read about J16, and so many people seemed to hold him in such high regard, so I thought I'd give it a read over. Needless to say I liked what I saw. I've tried all sorts of indicator driven systems and wanted all that crap off my charts. I knew there had to be a way to trade price. James16 method gives me that.
I have read the first 2080 posts in that thread, and currently keep up as best I can with the newest posts. I have read the Pin Bar intro (twice) and advanced that lwoo034 put together. I am curently working my way thru the videos in in the J16 PF guest section. Once I do that, and re read some of the chart thread, I plan on joining the PF.
I have a demo account with OANDA and I use FXPRO's charts (daily bar ends at 5pm EST) I have made 4 trades so far, which I will outline below.
I have MUCH to learn. I realize this is a long and daunting journey I face. But I will learn this. I will learn to profitably trade the markets. My goal is to trade for a living. If it takes 2, 5 or 10 years to accomplish, I will do it.
One of my favourite quotes on the j16 chart thread goes something like this: "If there were a college program out there that promised you a million dollar a year income at the end, how long would you be willing to go to school there for?"
As long as it takes.
I have read James16's rules and guidelines to go about this correctly. I am going to treat this as a business. I am currently in the Demo stage. I will demo for 3 profitable months before trading a dime of my own money. At the moment I'm learning how the software works, and the differences that forex presents.
...Well, that came out longer than I expected. But you know a little about me.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you provide, or even just for stopping by and checking out my thread.
Cheers!
Andrew
