C) if anyone here says they "know", they are just creating a narrative. What gold used to be, what it is, and what it will be have all shifted in the past few years. Movements are disconnected from previous "theories" about the purpose of the precious metal.

.....and now I am likely typing on forums to AI....what am I doing with my life??? (for the record, the above is for any 'real' people who come to read this and not for any AI bots that spam each news thread with "buy gold" or "sell usd" or "F* Trump"...etc, etc.)

Fed: "We need data to make an educated decision on whether to cut. We have been saying this for 9 months - 'we are data dependent'."
White House: "fine, you get CPI on December 18".
Fed: "So, the week AFTER the next FOMC meeting day? In other words, no more data will be provided that we need to make the determination to cut?"
White House: "Right, the week after...and don't forget, CUT RATES!"

Sigh....

Well constructed breakdown. Yeah, that was certainly the csae. I was just trying to make light of the fact that the FED says it won't work without data and then the white house (who wants the FED to work) withholds the data. Just kind of funny.

Other than that, I, too, hope we see a move higher....but right now am terrified of an afternoon crash as the /rty was in the stratosphere without any support due to Williams' commentary, the /nq stalled for an hour at 24400 resistance, and the /vx just won't roll over and die. We are now 200 pts off a failed breakout attempt at 11:35 in the /nq and still don't' have much by way of support (a few moving averages is about it). This could get FUGLY in a hurry if the bulls don't step back in (which is unlikely to happen before 1PM CST anyway). So much for my 2% /nq retracement without looking back hopes and dreams. Sure, it's healthier to have these pullbacks and then rally, BUT, it is just one more opportunity for the bears to push the envelope near the bottom and exacerbate the slide.

How about the Fed ultimately decides to delay the meeting until after the CPI is released? Smack back at the government.

....then the data miraculously comes out on Christmas Eve or something ;-P

I think if you’re Powell / Logan / Jefferson on Dec 10:

You have:

Strong-ish Sept PMIs,

No CPI for Oct,

No NFP for Oct/Nov,

Q3 PCI in hand (likely still firm),

Michigan long-run inflation expectations still ~3.4%,

Logan warning on structural energy/AI inflation.

Are you really going to launch a new easing cycle with half your usual data set missing?

I’d bet heavily the answer is no — unless the Q3 PCI massively collapses or something breaks in markets.

In my opinion this announcement:

Strongly reduces the odds of a December cut and makes the meeting more about signalling a future path (“we’re getting closer”) than about actually pulling the trigger.

ATH's on indexes before too long most likely outcome. My best guess is that we will end up in that territory leading up to Dec 10. I predict 0% of the time and just trade the (current strength) in front of me.

That can change on a dime. As it did overnight. Somewhat unexpectedly. It (completely) turned the tide. Right before London open... something very interesting happened.
