There are around 262 million adults in the US. If you paid $2,000 to 220 million of them, that would be $440 billion. Is this an annual dividend Trump is lying about? If so, that amount surpasses the annual revenue generated by tariffs by a factor of 2.

Trump and the GOP have to sometimes confront the inevitable nuisance of the disparity in income that their policies exacerbate. Trump is dangling a mythical $2000 carrot in front of the dispossessed masses in hopes that it will help them forget that he is horribly out of touch with the economic plight of the common man. "I don't want to hear about affordability!" he whines. The man does not even know what "groceries" are.

It's not going to work. Trump can lie and say inflation is non-existent, but he can't actually bring the prices of things down. Tariffs are inflationary and that fact is gradually becoming manifest.

Also, the national debt is now $38 trillion, not $37T, after the fastest accumulation of an additional $1 trillion of debt since the pandemic, under Trump.

It's a full time job dispelling all the lies that come out of Trump's mouth. Lying is his superpower. People pay more attention when they're hungry, though. So the idea is to throw them a $2k bone so they'll settle down.

Can't dispute the disconnect between "statements" and "facts". Haven't you heard that the American pharmaceutical user is soon going to be saving "1000% to 1500%, sometimes more!" on their monthly prescriptions due to preferred nation pricing? Now, I tend to give people leeway when speaking off script....we all make mistakes....but I can't tell you the number of times I have heard this businessman talk about savings in excess of 100% like he really thinks that is accurate (or even possible without wrapping, in the case of drugs, each pull bottle with US bills!). ....but I digress.....

The problem (if it is such a thing) is that the average voter can't separate fact from fiction either...so 'the president is going to give me $2000 and have generated $17 trillion in new revenue for this country in his first year...he is the best!!' becomes the honest viewpoint of a lot of people.

Now, those people are going to be in for a rude awakening when this "stimulus" is a) not given (and then blamed on, you guessed it, someone else for it not happening), or b) given in some fashion and then taxed as ordinary income, so only worth about 75% of the total (on average, assuming some people will pay 5-10% and some will pay 35% on the stimulus).

Giving government stimulus is not all that uncommon. It is a good way to boost popularity numbers, get votes, and inject more $$ into the economy. The drawback, as we all know, is that when you turn on the money printers, you risk ramping up inflation. That, however, is typically GOOD for the stock market...so the perma-bulls and long term investors can be thrilled about such things.

I, for one, am not holding my breath on any $$ being sent anywhere....

Obviously this is not going to happen, which is why Bessent was quick to walk it back. Bessent's lie about giving the US populations $2k in the form of tax cuts is a joke, also. About 40% of US households pay no income tax, so tax cuts are mostly irrelevant for most of the Americans who might be eligible for the largesse.

Trump's idea about giving US citizens a lump sum for their health care expenses is also incredibly ignorant. You need health insurance not just for payments, but so the insurer can argue with the providers about the price of things. Anybody with any experience dealing with providers knows this: you go to the hospital for minor outpatient surgery and the bill, without insurance, is $47,000; after the insurer pays what is allowable and reasonable, that has come down to <$10k. Without insurance, you're screwed if you need anything other than minor care.

Trump has been whining for 15 years about repealing and reforming Obamacare (the ACA). His detailed plans for doing so have always been 2 weeks away. The fact is he has no plan and never will. The fact is he and the GOP do not care about, no they actually hate the poor.

Trump recently argued that it was OK to let SNAP payments lapse, because the recipients are "mostly Democrats." That pretty much captures who Trump is: a vicious partisan who hates anyone who does not bow down to him. In fact, there are scores of millions of Trump voters who get those benefits and other forms of govt welfare. He acted out of compassionate rage, his motives were profoundly sane. If you find yourself feeling well-adjusted in a sick society, that makes you the one who needs to get some help.
