Analysis of the Gold Divergence

The Fundamental Narrative: Our analysis concluded that the combined story of cooling inflation (CPI) and weakening employment (NFP) is overwhelmingly bullish for Gold. The leading indicators are clear.
The Technical Price Action: Gold trading below its weekly pivot point shows a bearish market position. Sellers are in control, and the price is being held at a discount.

This is a direct conflict. The price action is not reflecting the bullish fundamental story.
What This Divergence Tells Us About Gold
Just as we discussed, this situation means one of three things is happening in the Gold market:

"Smart Money" is Betting on a Hawkish Fed: A powerful group of traders may believe the consensus is wrong. They might be focused on the strong PMI data from last Friday and believe the Fed will deliver a "hawkish cut," shocking the market and sending the USD soaring (and Gold plummeting). Their selling pressure is what's keeping the price down.
A Larger Bearish Force is at Play: There could be an external factor weighing on Gold that has nothing to do with the FOMC. This could be large-scale profit-taking from a prior run-up, a major central bank reported to be selling its reserves, or large funds liquidating assets for other reasons.
A Bear Trap is Being Set: The price is being artificially suppressed to encourage more short-sellers to enter the market. The goal would be to fuel an explosive "short squeeze" rally if the Fed is as dovish as expected.
