The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.9 percent in June on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.6 percent in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This was the largest 1-month change since June 2008 when the index rose 1.0 percent. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 5.4 percent before seasonal adjustment; this was the largest 12-month increase since a 5.4-percent increase for the period ending August 2008. Inflation continued its rapid surge in June, rising its fastest pace in nearly 13 years, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. The consumer price index increased 5.4% from a year ago, the largest jump since just before the financial crisis. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a 5% gain. Stripping out volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI rose 4.5%, the sharpest move for that measure since September 1991. Flip a coin with gold chaps. Probably not the best thing to be trading for this theme:

1) high inflation with low expectation of fed action: Gold rallies.
2) high inglation with high exp of fed action: Gold tanks.
3) high inflation and market confusion as to what to trade: Gold chops up and down.

I am long USD against Yen and GBP which are the pairs I trade. It is swing positions so havent traded around news today.

Seriously... as has been the case for well over a year.... gold is not a good symbol to trade this theme with. As its response to inflation expectations is not linear.

If a voting member came out right now and shocked the market with a hawkish comment.. then yes.... sell the crap out of gold. Alternatively, if they keep towing the dovish rhetoric.... buy it.

Until then you can't trade gold on inflation prints alone. Well.... you can certainly try.

I prefer buying the dips. Getting down back to 1750 level is not that easy. I think institutions are trying to hold gold above. Because they know if it goes down to 1750 level again. It will break in pieces.
