Hi. I recently got a hold of this Index & Volume Profile(vp) indicator(s) and I decided to start this thread in the hope that development of how formula can be written. I hope this will take place in a joined effort if others will post there findings as they are discovered.
The Indexing Indicator is not my own. The credit for these Indicators, I discovered today, is named Zsolt H. I obtained these indicators, and many others, under the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE
Version 3, attached to this post along with the Index & Volume Profile(VP)(On-Range/Many options) indicator(s) and all associated include files. Thank you. Also, MT5 Versions in the Zip, all the Include Files are compatible with both MT4 & MT5.
I will post what I can and what I have learned so far, all I ask in return is that you do the same. On topic.
Install Script
Unless otherwise specified, the code is available for both MT4 and MT5. Further, under the MQL folder, the MQL4 or MQL5 folder is assumed depending on the version of the terminal. Scripts for which there are versions for MT4 and MT5 can be identical in content. You have to use separate files, because MetaTrader recognizes the MQL version exclusively by the file extension.
The indicator or script code usually consists of a pair of main files, one for MQL4 and MQL5 (with extensions .mq4 and .mq5), and folders with included files (...- include).
To install, just copy the folder containing these files and the folder in one place, for indicators it is MQL / Indicators. No need to move the ...- include folder to the MQL/Includes folder, because the code uses relative paths, and this method will not work.
Folder with included files will not interfere in MetaTrader, because it does not have the main indicator code, and it will not appear in the folder structure in the Navigator. You can also not delete the "extra" main file from another version of MQL, this file will also be ignored in MT Navigator.
For example, to install the VP indicator, just copy the VP folder from this repository to the MQL4/Indicators and/or MQL5/Indicators folders. Again, the VP.mq4 and VP.mq5 files and the VP-include folder must be in the same folder. In order not to have an extra level folder in the Navigator, you can copy the contents of MQL/Indicators/VP directly to MQL5/Indicators.
Below are shown options for the correct location of files and folders after installing two indicators - VP and Index.
The .mq4 files could be removed here, but they will not interfere, you can leave it.
Without an extra folder in the Navigator for 4 and 5:
... [MQL4]
[Indicators]
[Index-include]
[VP-include]
Index.mq4
Index.mq5
VP.mq4
VP.mq5
... [MQL5]
[Indicators]
[Index-include]
[VP-include]
Index.mq4
Index.mq5
VP.mq4
VP.mq5
To find out where the MQL4 or MQL5 folder is located in MetaTrader or MetaEditor, you can call the menu File/Open Data Folder.
CCF is also welcome as the are very similar from what I can tell.
the first thing I did was this because I have had no clue how to format the formula. I have figured out a few things but I am positive there must be some really cool things this indicator can do. I figured out finally how to apply a Moving average to an index. I then figured out how to choose an index from the chart in one of htree ways For example. USD/CAD chart, I think this is correct anyways, but it does work, for Cad index [0]. for exchange rate of one is [1] and for the second is [2].
Also, you can add and subtract, multiple and divide and square root which is ^ (shift 6). but some combos will not work.
I believe you can create a cross currency index too, and probable whatever instrument your offered. I have been comparing the CCF to this and I like this better, just my HO, though.
I typed in USD and got this. plus I dropped another index on it.
-Second image is a little more tricky to figure out but is actually pretty simple.
What I am curious about the most is all the different ways formula can be applied to a singular or multiple index to create some useful ?
Also, I learned you can add to the basket and that including the indexed symbol in the basket has no affect on the index price because every thing, I believe, is based in USD, of something like that.
Moving averages on to opposing index currency rates USD/CAD, and I picked the colors after I figured out how to apply the MA's after like a week of frustrations.
** And you are welcome to post too, yep I'm talking to you. **
