I have been reading about it (more or less unintentionally) more and more.. (even in) in books and even recent articles...
What do you guys think?

Before you dismiss the idea, please read this (ideas) - I tried to find them from "both sides":

  1. https://www.metalsmine.com/news/9329...rd-could-crush
  2. https://www.rt.com/business/461752-r...ptocurrencies/
  3. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/07/05/e...rve/index.html
  4. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/10/feds...e-economy.html (Thoughts of Powell, on the matter)
  5. https://www.theguardian.com/business...e-pegged-rates

Also many articles can be found (lately) regarding the Russia, China, Turkey... and USA... (just) talking about it, for now...
Once the NEWS would be even remotely "out".. it might be too late to take advantage of it! Or how "Wolf" in the "Wolf of Wall Street (2013)" movie said it (best) :

"Wolf": "Now the key to making money in a situation like this, is to position yourself now before the settlement. Because by the time you hear about it in the Wall St journal it’s already too late."

And my post(s) regarding the GOLD reserves vs MONEY SUPPLY... I think the idea is not that FAR OFF, should there be any interest for it...
It could be done... even "easier" than I initially thought.

  1. https://www.metalsmine.com/showthrea...9#post12403859
  2. https://www.metalsmine.com/showthrea...2#post12425172
  3. https://www.metalsmine.com/showthrea...7#post12442077
  4. https://www.metalsmine.com/news/9324...about-the-gold

I believe this kind of info (with either conclusion!) might be an important component of the fundamental analysis... Implications would be gold going up (in USD)?
Please share your thoughts...

Can you afford to take that chance?

My first reaction is "no", the gold standard will not come back.

I'll read the posts you linked to, and get back to you later

The Russian gold-backed cryptocurrency seems quite plausible. But I don't see the US, or any other major country returning to the gold standard anytime soon.

That said, history does have a great way of repeating itself. So you never know

There have been some interesting discussions lately out of Malaysia about going to the gold standard. While I don't think it could it could work in terms of backing global currencies, there is evidence that smaller countries could move in this direction and it could benefit them if implemented correctly. The argument against it that I found intriguing was increasing the amount of gold in smaller countries means gold would be in the hands of people more likely to centralize wealth and possibly use corruption to increase personal wealth. Good arguments on both sides there.

In theory, the gold standard is very logical. In reality, there's not enough gold to back the money the world needs. But even if there were, what would we do about the future of transactions going to digital. While I understand the argument for the gold standard, and it does have some value, I don't think we'd move in that direction. The limits it would place on central bank policy would probably end up hurting us more than helping. In times of crisis, we need central banks to be creative in order to limit any negative impacts from economic crashes.

Also, with the lack of gold needed to back all currencies, the implications involving conflicts and fights over gold increase tremendously.

I'm not saying it's impossible. I'd actually like to hear your disagreements with anything I said because I haven't given this that much attention due to the fact I don't see it as ever becoming a reality. Gold ultimate utility is a store of value and I don't see humans ever turning to any other physical asset to store wealth during crises, when given the option.
We must learn who is gold, and who is gold plated

Yeah, imagine... gold-backed cryptocurrency.. approved by major country... MIND=BLOWN RU have "slight" image problem lately... so people would have trust issues, but if they would somehow manage to pass that, to assure people they will not lose money/savings or anything.. I think they would be pulling some serious money

About the history... It does repeat, I believe also... And also! GOLD=k, gold has been the constant through the history... You could time-travel anytime, anywhere.. you would not starve... with gold... It still fascinates me why are we so (rather) obsessed (as people/humanity) with it... can not quite rationalise till the last bit... but hey, some things are just built-in or pre-installed (in our minds) right

The thing is... it doesn't have to change as it was before... It just have to be legal (alternative) and people will decide for themselves in what they believe more... Same as cryptos, at the moment.. I do not believe in the ultimate solutions or the "absolute truths".. I am about experiments and freedom aka "free to choose" I would say, one country or even big company/corp... might give it a try.. and we will see, soon... Also, countries that you mentioned will seriously think about the alternatives now that they saw the real value of previously (perceived as) very valuable things.. Additionally.. there has been quite an obsession, for decades, to bring the alternatives to USD... and BRICS (you saw how things can move quickly there), has the means, interest and the will (maybe) to at least offer the alternative and let the markets decide... And also, we could just decide for ourselves to have personal gold standard It is still legal to own (buy/sell) gold... for now.. so as long as this is true... Would be much more optimal to have some gold backed cash (as it was designed and used in the beginning, money was just paper certificate for gold...) so to not lose money when exchanging etc...

Would love to see something like this again
