More Yen intervention currently underway, though it does not appear to be making much of a dent. Still holding well above 161

One thing I learned from my losses: never trust these headline-driven moves. I watched the Satsuki Katayama interview and BOJ comments, and that's enough for me. I won't be touching the JPY buy or sell button around this stuff ever again.

BoJ will not stop until 150 or lower.

Nikkei at all time highs. Either you have to hit hard with this intervention or you need to stop buying JGB which is only suppressing yen anyways. Let's see how it plays out. We can see that 162 they're trying to defend any type of encroachment at that area. Last time intervention hit around that level UJ hit exactly 161.950 before it eventually hit a low of 139.579. It took it 3 months to make that move.

Forex is not my forte. But I have been around, traded through, and closely watched prior intervention events.

This price action does NOT scream "intervention" nor does it suggest "intervention continued" in the prior sense of the word. It could have been the BOJ propping things up a little, but in the past, we would have seen 4x+ the move and 10x the volume.

Personally, I am more inclined to believe that the markets are moving on the "risk" of intervention due to a discussion between Bessent and Katayama than I would actual BOJ yen buying.

If it is intervention by BOJ, you can be sure of one thing: the move is not over. Price action suggests this was 'testing the waters' and any 'big' event is on the horizon. That certainly wasn't enough to scare anyone out of positions.

Plus, now, everyone will have moved their short-term SLs to adjust for the levels just reached. Any breach of those levels (whether short the USD/JPY spot or long the /6J) will trigger the SLs and, in theory, give the BOJ momentum in their desired direction should an actual intervention finally occur.

April's intervention saw 624k /6j contracts traded and a 0.000209 range.
July 2024 saw 400k contracts and a 0.000172 range.
Today's move volume is 255k with a 0.000037 range. The day is not over, so volumes can still tick up, but that range certainly suggests 2-sided action vs. sizable, unidirectional (intervention) movement.

But, then again, we'll just have to wait and see. As a holder of /6j in anticipation of at least a move to 6/15 highs on any real intervention, I'm certainly not impressed if that was "it".

BoJ is providing liquidity.
