USD/JPY makes a quick move lower. Eyes on intervention

USD/JPY make a quick move lower after touching a session high. The pair briefly traded above 161.90 only to plunge promptly to 161.20. The dip has been bought though, with the pair back up to 161.65. Japanese officials have repeatedly warned that they're watching markets closely. On Friday, USD/JPY posted its highest weekly close in 40 years and the end of the Iran war doesn't appear to be helping. With today's earlier move higher, the June high of 161.80 broke but the July 2024 intraday high of 161.99 is still intact, albeit barely. THAT? That is is an expected intervention? Come on now. The move was tiny. Volume was not large enough to suggest full intervention.

Past interventions have resulted in larger moves for sure. This looks like someone assumed traders are tightening their stops on intervention fears and went SL hunting.

If it was indeed the BOJ though, what COULD happen is that there's a little pop to drive speculation....then BOJ hopes the market takes over and continues the move in their direction. After a few hours comes the bigger injection and more significant moves, leading to further market selling and, thus, an "actual" intervention-size" move.

....but, as it stands, that was miniscule compared to past attempts.

For those who trade nasdaq and s&p the reason of the "intervention" news effect is the opposite of the currency. if you compare the USD/JPY and e.g. $nq or $es , you see the strengthen in the currency so opposite in these indexes, weaken.

The meaning is there was sudden spike on JPYBASKET (JPY pairs) and that it's probably BOJ intervention, news will do nothing since it already happend, we might expect more interventions soon but that's it
