German retail sales in July 2025 down 1.5% in real terms compared to the previous month

According to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), retail sales in Germany fell by 1.5% in real terms (adjusted for price changes) and 1.0% in nominal terms (not adjusted for price changes) in July 2025 compared to June 2025, based on calendar and seasonally adjusted figures. Compared to July 2024, sales increased by 1.9% in real terms and by 3.1% in nominal terms. In June 2025, retail sales remained unchanged compared to May 2025, increasing by 1.0% in real terms and 0.8% in nominal terms, following revisions to the preliminary figures.
