Trump signs executive order allowing Nippon to buy U.S. Steel
Nudging U.S. Steel’s sale to Nippon Steel a step closer to the finish line, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday evening undoing the block that his predecessor put on the deal in January. The executive order says, essentially, that the $14.9 billion all-stock buyout of U.S. Steel Corp. by the Japanese company can proceed after the signing of a national security agreement that resolves the “credible evidence” that Nippon “might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.” According to the document, the federal government gave a draft copy of such an ...
