are there many out there ?

i micro scalp the 1 minute chart, tight stops tiny profits . holding trades for seconds rather than minutes

sometimes catch a nice trailing SL

dont buy into 1 minute being noisy, all TF's are just fractals imo

my sample size is not big enough to say i'm long term profitable, but i can say i'm break even for now


just wondering if there are many out there and how long you being doing it, profitable , unprofitable, break even ?

Its not up to us how quick price goes to target or we get stopped out.
But if your entry logic decision based on 1m chart then exit logic should be based also on 1m chart and trade should last a minute (to the next candle close) ?

nah i often close way before 1 minute , logic : im in sell and it spikes down, as soon as minute opens , that could be a bottom wick to then push up , so why not take the profit , yes it could continue down , depends on your stratagey,

that being said, it maybe beneficial to hold trades at least a minute if entry is based on 1 minute , holding trades is hard sometimes , and my stops are so damn tight , i mean tight af

Lets say fee / commission is 50% of your profits. Even if fee is 99% of profits.
I am happy to pay millions even billions in commissions every day.

Yes, do it every night along with NQ.

Its best traded on Futures where you have access to Delta data to see if its strong or weak trading pressure moving price.

The golden rule is to only trade Gold if Futures volume is greater than 333 contracts a minute. This avoids arbitrage trading destroying good price action movements. The odds of winning are higher basically.

Interesting point about the volume filter. When I tried fast gold scalps, the worst trades were not bad entries but dead tape, spread and slippage eating small targets. I would also like to know why 333 exactly, because a rule without clear data can become dangerous

Gold Futures is of course not an asset so price is mainly controlled by big players arbitraging the price difference between the real Gold price and current Futures price.
So this volume isn't directional in intend but just big players picking off a few ticks when price moves outside value. Some of this volume is also Wash trades where a big player Buys in his right hand and sells to his left hand (not supposed to happen).

If volume is below 300-330 contacts a minute, we have no directional traders controlling the market.

Why 333 Contacts, I think I was trading a lot with a trader called Ryuryu and he thought it was a cool number - so it just STUCK

Great, thanks for the detailed response. Im working on a a table for Tradingview which can sit on my CFD chart showing live GC1! contract volume , average for previous x bars and have alerts.

If you are Asia or London session trader you will be waiting forever.
Last Friday. Orange candles, volume >=333, gray area 1st two hours of US stock market.

Thanks, yes London /New york overlap will always be the most volume. I guess in the case of friday the lower than expected PCE would have added to that. There are opportunities during various sessions for m1 gold trading. The point is to know what the contract level is and monitor the change . A move from 50 to 150 in confluence with other information might be useful across a range of sessions. we will see.

333 Volume however offers very high win rates so it's worth waiting for those numbers.

PS. Cheat Sheet

Combine with Cumulative Delta indicator and only trade if a trend develops on both Indy & price chart.

Best tip I can give!

CHART USING MICRO GOLD FUTURES because this is the market for directional traders and the volume is far higher (333 occurs a lot).

Thanks for that. Im already using CVD and the widget im going to start testing has both GC1! and MGC1!

Wouldnt micros be more retail rather than the big boys with enough volume to move the market?

Would it be possible for you to send a screenshot of one or several trades with the labels where your SL and TP are for context?

Is there a reason why gold and not Nasdaq, for example?

Not sure how to relate CDV to total volume as CVD doesn't represent total volume. You even haven't used CVD until recently although you used to promote volume delta. It seems you know many things but to be honest, mostly they don't make sense to me. If they leave such an easy trail, everybody can make money in the market.


Does Cumulative Delta Volume represent the total volume traded?

No. Cumulative Delta Volume (CVD) does not represent the total volume traded.
CVD measures the net difference between aggressive buying and aggressive selling, not the total amount of trading activity.
Example
Suppose during one minute:
Aggressive Buy VolumeAggressive Sell VolumeTotal VolumeDelta
6004001,000+200

  1. Total Volume = 600 + 400 = 1,000
  2. Delta = 600 − 400 = +200

If the next minute has:
Aggressive Buy VolumeAggressive Sell VolumeTotal VolumeDelta
5,1004,90010,000+200
The delta is still +200, but the total volume is 10 times larger.
What CVD tells you

  1. Whether buyers or sellers were more aggressive.
  2. The cumulative net order flow over time.
  3. Potential divergences between price and order flow.

What CVD does NOT tell you

  1. The exact total volume traded.
  2. How active the market was overall.
  3. Whether both sides were trading heavily but nearly evenly.

For a futures trader (e.g., trading COMEX Gold Futures (/GC)), it's common to monitor:

  1. Price
  2. Volume
  3. Cumulative Delta

Together they provide a more complete picture:

  1. Volume = participation/activity.
  2. Delta/CVD = buying vs. selling pressure.
  3. Price = market response to that pressure.

Happy to stand corrected, but i think Rick was suggesting CVD and the actual m1 number of contracts, using the 2 together. You cant beat actual volume data , but there is other data to add as a filter to refine. I find volume and momentum is key, how its defined and measured on a chart so its tradeable is the tricky part.
