    The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index® edged up by 0.8 points in March to 91.8 (1985=100), from 91.0 in February. The Present Situation Index—based on consumers' assessment of current business and labor market conditions—increased by 4.6 points to 123.3. The Expectations Index—based on consumers' short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions—declined by 1.7 points to 70.9. The survey period for preliminary results was March 1 to 24, 2026. First time I have read through one of these. The verbiage is nearly ALL negative. Then you get to the summary section which cite a belief that current business conditions are considered "improving". The survey deadline was March 24....but that doesn't mean the latest fuel hikes were included in respondent feedback....so the revisions will be interesting. ****disclaimer: the markets probably care as much about this as dog people care about cats.......so WTFC is likely the reality****

I don't know though - something just doesn't smell right. Equity markets were due for a pullback off resistance levels at the release anyway, but they seem to be reacting not to the number, but to the rhetoric.

....let's hope that doesn't continue for much longer, because the elevator shaft down could be fast and furious :-(
