This is Israel's war. Trump was brought along easily, as he thought Iran would just roll over if he parked a couple aircraft carriers in the area. He saw himself in a ticker tape parade, rolling majestcly thru the streets of Tehran, after liberating the poor people there from an evil regime, with a few days of bombing. Meanwhile the Israelis are just seeing how far they can go in Iran, after flattening Gaza with impunity.

So now Trump is in a box. He needs to deliver some sort of prize. One that the world demands is a Straits of Hormuz that's open for business. Like it was when Biden was POTUS. Another would be a miraculous heist of Iran's complete load of highly enriched uranium. Neither of these are easily achievable, if at all. Iran can be a completely failed state yet still wreak havoc in the Straits. That could go on indefinitely. To try to open the Straits means US navy destroyers patrolling and escorting thru there, and boots on the ground along the shoreline to prevent the havoc wreakers from wreaking havoc. Sounds like a de facto occupation. Sounds like another Iraq, or another Vietnam.

Meanwhile Brent is still pricing in all this risk and your 401k has now been flat (if you'ew lucky) since October. Beware the Ides of March, indeed.

.....just looked up the size of that contract. Nope....can't sell that much. It's so much smaller than I thought. I get that there is a lot of money on the sidelines ready to make a market here, but is crude really that small? (Sub $70B for the futures contracts)? That seems a bit off.

Destroying Iran is not so simple. Iran is not Afghanistan or Vietnam, and even there the United States and Russia did not succeed. We should not forget that Iran is now backed by China and Russia, which are already supplying it with intelligence and weapons. I think the best solution now is to reach an agreement. A weak peace is better than a good war in which there would be no winners. And most importantly, many innocent people would die.
