  • Iran says US, Israel struck giant gas field as war escalates

    Iran said the US and Israel struck its giant South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf, the latest attack on energy assets in the region-wide conflict. Oil prices jumped after Iranian state TV reported the airstrike, which raised fears of further risks to global crude and gas supplies. Gulf producers have significantly reduced output during the 19-day war, particularly due to the effective shuttering of the Strait of Hormuz. If confirmed, the assault would mark the first time the US and Israel have targeted Iran’s upstream oil and gas facilities since starting the war on Feb. 28. The Islamic Republic has responded ... Lot of pundits been saying that Iran holds all the cards because it controls the flow of oil through the Gulf, but they're not seeing that its military capabilities are being taken out at an astonishing rate (1) and that the flow of oil is its lifeline (2) the allies exert extreme pressure on the country by reducing its output. And at the end of the day that's more of a Rest of the World problem given the USA's production capabilities and easy access to Canadian oil

The houthis blocked Bab-El-Mandeb for 18 months and they have 1% of Iran's capability and Hormuz is 34km at its widest - which can be monitored with binoculars lol

Looted gulf hydrocarbons is one of the main financiers of murikan debt, including propping up the stock market - this specific artery is the life-line of the petro-dollar - you dont need to control the strait (but Iran does control it now) you only need to make navigation dangerous and disrupt the flow.

Any profitable retail trader know not to trade energy markets, its one of the most manipulated markets among the financial instruments - only exit liquidity look at energy financial instruments and think they can have an edge

Quite a smart move to hold the whole Gulf supply hostage which other economies cannot handle the shock for a prolonged period. US will then export oil once more (including Venezuela's captured supply) and probably try to offset its internal price by taxing the world. Iran made the mistake of telling the world we will shoot at our own feet. They should have quietly devised a plan - the smarter thing to do would have been pretending to follow the US command but then trick them at a more opportune time when they are busy with other things.

Ezpz play, US will continue to topple weak governments and then prop them back up by forcing them to use the dollar. Its currently check but not check mate...hope China/India/Russia does something out of left field to make it more interesting.

Perhaps this won't mean much if Iran decides to retaliate and attack the desalination plants of neighboring countries.

The petrodollar is under threat; if a critical escalation occurs, there will be no further investment from the GGC in Artificial Intelligence and the bubble will burst, meaning the market could collapse.

haha, you don't even understand economics, it's not about how much oil Canada has now, it's about the demand in the world, how much oil will you have, if the price is high, it has no effect

they can never make up for it now because it is on the other side of the world, the oceans are unstable, the oil in Venezuela takes longer to refine and it is a very expensive process, it is simply impossible. petrodollar as geopolitics if there is no petrodollar there is no strong usa if these countries want to sell oil in other currencies then the empire called usa will fall

What he says is completely true. The petrodollar is the key to controlling the rest of the world. Without it, there is no control because all countries must have dollars to obtain oil, and the golf countries make that possible for them.
