I wish someone would explain how tariffs work to this economic illiterate and that no tariffs will be returned to any country, but to the Americans, who bought imported goods.

I have always appreciated Mr Trump's gentle, almost shy way of suggesting something utterly without precedent. I find his modesty strangely captivating. It wraps itself around a claim of unparalleled magnitude as though it were nothing at all.

This was also quite evident in his recent speech to the World.
