Trump: Just completed excellent phone conversation with President Xi, including the April trip that I will be making to China

Over the past few weeks, Trump and his loudest supporters appear to have realized that intimidation and empty threats no longer work. The world is not stupid, and nations that have survived for centuries are not going to be bullied into submission. Choosing not to respond to provocation with equal stupidity is not weakness; it is strategic strength. At the same time, Trump is increasingly boxed in by domestic problems at home, facing growing resistance and accountability, along with the realization that history may remember him less for strength and more for recklessness. As U.S. global leverage weakens—through the loss of markets, influence, and the unquestioned dominance of its currency—other nations are quietly adapting, diversifying, and moving forward without waiting for American approval. His realization of being neglected is clearly visible.

The tech rout may have just begun, although there will be lots of dip-buying along the way down. Several realizations about the AI boom/bubble have been setting in. 1) These companies blowing thru $trillions in capex to build out more and more compute are like lemmings chasing a dream that may go up in smoke. They don't/won't have the power to make all the mega-racks run. All of them admit that they are buying blackwell (etc) chips that they can't plug in anywhere. Otoh, the next innovation that renders all this overconstruction obsolete could be right around the corner. It is all starting to seem more and more risky. 2) With lots of layoffs in tech announced recently, more and more AI is seen as something that will exacerbate the K-shaped economy. At some point, the K will get so top-heavy that it must fall. It's kind of ironic that the profession that seems to be most at risk from AI (early on anyway) is the same that helped invent it - programmers. I know a few and none are happy.... Anyway, I'll be a dip buyer, too, but keeping risks small.
