The problem is that foreign investors last 10 years borrowed cheap speculative capital in JPY and now they have to pay it back, and in order to pay it back they are forced to buy the JPY.

Carry-trade unwinding plays definitely a role, but its not the main driver. Japan has had ultra-low rates for decades, so carry flows are constant, but they dont explain every appreciation spike. BoJ pushes back against yen strength because it directly threatens exports, corporate earnings and inflation stability, not because of speculative flows alone.

People are already protesting about the high cost of imports they are paying for but BOJ, MOF and the previous prime ministers do not care. They are only thinking of profits the exporters are making and the extra income earned from tourism because of low yen . Wonder how long Takaichi will be able to carry on as the others had to resign because they could not handle things in the country.

BOJ is overdoing this yen weakness. By the time they actually do anything, it could be too late. They would have destroyed the Japanese economy. Because of BOJ's inaction, the yen has weakened more by 50% over the past 3 years. Really bad management. I am surprised that the citizens of Japan has been quiet the past few years
