I'd be pleased to bet against you on this occasion if I could.

There will have to be some very questionable acrobatic legal analysis to overturn the lower courts decision/s. Perhaps it can be done to favour Big Man, but at what cost?

I think that the import of the economics folk's submission goes to the emergency reason for imposing tariffs. The Sup Ct may say that there was/is no circumstances to invoke emergency powers, but who knows.

So let's pretend for a nanosecond that the court holds that those emergency powers were invoked with pure of heart and sound frontal cortex, and upheld.

Then imposing tariffs to fix it would be like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

So that's a couple of hoops to get through.

Hmmm.. "Trade deficits between the US and other nations are expected..." Of course they are "expected" especially by those other nations that have profited greatly at the disadvantage of U.S. Taxpayers over the last 40 plus years. Also big corporations have profited by paying no tariffs and paying pennies to manufacture their products leaving the wage earner in America without a decent paying job. Urging SCOTUS to rule because of some expectation is not what SCOTUS does. SCOTUS looks at the law and adjudicates whether the actions of the Executive branch falls within it. Congress can change the law, not SCOTUS.

Amen McSilver! And again, tariffs are the federal government's "taxing" policy NOT the income tax which is directly tied to the FED. END THE FED and return money back to the government NOT a cartel of international bankers. Set the example, America! Throw off the bands of tyranny!

As a fool would ask, who pays the tariffs?

But a smart person would ask, what exactly did Bernanke and Yellen do? They destroyed the value of the dollar with non stop printing. I can’t know if the current tariffs will turn out to be reasonably ok or do long term damage. However I do know that Bernanke and Yellen did trillions of dollars worth of damage to anyone who uses dollars.

If the Supreme Court finds in Trump's favor, I wondering if the market sentiment will change. I'm pretty sure the market priced in a Trump Tariffs put way back in April.

More re-shoring of industry happened on Biden's watch than Trump's, due to supply chain concerns in the aftermath of covid. Those concerns are permanent, so industry started to factor them into their infrastructure. Donnie is not a permanent problem, so industry is just gonna hunker down and take the pain until nature solves the Donnie problem, then back to business as usual.

Tariffs will not be given the time needed to re-shore jobs at meaningful levels, and Americans will hate paying higher prices to support more domestic blue collar jobs, so the whole trade war enterprise is doomed to be an expensive failure.
