The U.S. government shut down for the first time in seven years after lawmakers failed to pass a funding deal.

Around 750,000 federal workers were sidelined, costing the economy nearly $400 million per day. Trump opposed the move and warned of market consequences, but his stance was ignored as Congress hit gridlock.

The shutdown also froze key data releases, leaving traders without the usual economic compass. In response, investors piled into safe havens like gold (close to $4000) and Treasuries while equities somehow pushed higher on expectations of faster Fed cuts.

This week showed how politics and markets can tell two very different stories, and it raised the question of how long Wall Street can keep looking past Washington.

AMD stock skyrockets 25% as OpenAI looks to take stake through AI chip deal

 

  1. OpenAI and AMD have reached a deal that could see Sam Altman’s company take a 10% stake in the chipmaker
  2. OpenAI will deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs over multiple years, beginning with a 1-gigawatt rollout in 2026.
  3. AMD issued OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million shares, with vesting tied to deployment and share price milestones.
