Yes, if the country is small, perhaps third world status, and it depends for its viability on its exports to the US.

The country will go broke.

And its people will starve.

eg, Lesotho, one of the very poorest countries in the world, sells blue jeans (Levis, Wranglers) and diamonds to the US. Hit with a 50% tariff. Trump said the reciprocal tariffs were "for countries that treat us badly".

Big tariff because big deficit. Well, they can't afford to buy much, let alone from the US.

Recently modified to 15% but the damage was done. I know China and Russia pulled out the “neo-colonialism” tag, to suit there own agendas and I’m reluctant to be in such company, but it certainly could be perceived as such.
