The Long-to-Short Ratio System for Spotting Selloffs
The idea is straightforward. When a coin shows an overwhelming imbalance — say, 200:1 or even 400:1 in favor of long positions — that’s a strong signal the market is overly crowded with buyers. And when everyone’s on the same side of the trade, market makers and larger players often move against it.
These kinds of extreme ratios tend to show up before significant price drops — even full-on rug pulls. It’s a clear sign of unsustainable sentiment, and a solid setup for a reversal.

These kinds of extreme ratios tend to show up before significant price drops — even full-on rug pulls. It’s a clear sign of unsustainable sentiment, and a solid setup for a reversal.
Here’s how I approach it:
- Open the Long-to-Short Ratio chart on Binance (30-day scale).
- Watch for extreme buyer imbalances — ratios of 200:1 or more are great but not mandatory.
- Look for a steady climb in the ratio over time. A smooth, natural increase is more reliable than choppy or erratic movement. You want to see a clear buildup in long positions without a lot of sharp dips or spikes.
- As an extra filter, I also use the TTM Squeeze indicator. It doesn’t tell you the direction of the move, but it’s great for identifying when the market is coiling up for a strong impulse. If the squeeze fires during one of these extreme ratio moments, that’s a good confirmation that volatility is about to kick in.
- When everything lines up, I look to short the coin, set a stop loss, and hold with patience. This system isn’t about jumping in and out — it’s about letting the imbalance play out.
- Exit when the move has played out to your satisfaction. There’s no fixed target — just manage your risk and lock in profits when it makes sense.
This strategy rewards patience and careful observation. You won’t be trading constantly, but when the setup is there, it can be incredibly rewarding.
