It depends on your method or system. As has been repeatedly said, if you have a system and rules, follow them. If your approach is opportunistic and considers 100 pips as a good and sufficient profit, then take it.

Update to post 78340.
Taken profit at daily open ....less than 60 minutes to Frankfurt open and there are 2 news events to-night.
One can not loose taking profit consistantly and if that is only 20 pips etc so be it .....The point is not of be one of the 95 %
I sit and wait for an opportunity and this may take many hours....Certainly not opportunistic as posted above but then I have doing this since the Dark Ages, not that means anything these days.....With all the world events these days gold can move up or down very quickly.
Gold continues down and that is fine with me ....I will now wait for another opportunity......My target is to win every day.

Thats only half of the picture.
CPI on its own is a great indicator, but do not show the true picture and market reaction is what happening to the data in question or more particular in which economic environment.

For educational purpose, lets dive in.

FED mandate is dual : Price stability and Full Employment.
If CPI is rising with resilience labour market ( showing good GDP strength- healthy economy => Funds fly to stock) : USD rising = GOLD down.

If CPI rising with weak or falling Lbr market (illustrating weak growth strength): USD falls on 'GOOD CPI' = GOLD will eventually rose (even if it does not spike right on the data release- safe haven demand)

If CPI rise with already -ve GDP figures (and/or contracting LBR market) : USD Falls , GOLD rise right on the data release (indicating Stagflation)

Not relating to CPI topic, but correlation between USD and GOLD

In the case of geopolitic risks
Both DOllar and GOLD may rise together.
However, with the anticipated debt crisis, majority are avoiding dollar denominated assets (Treasuries, T bills...), other nations buy XAU/yuan, XAU/eur, XAU/aed, XAU/hkd, XAU/aud ...
Demand for XAU rose based on other currency.

A case where both dollar and GOLD may fall together.
May happen in expansion phase of economic cycle.
With FED QE already in place, GDP figures in green while CPI is below 2% (below FED target)
The increasing money supply cause Dollar to fall.
While Gold as an asset does not yield anything, investors buy stocks. No one would want Gold, Demand for gold faded.
Those who were already positioned in Gold, will start liquidating and increase their exposure to stocks as stock market will booming.

Hope my little post make you understand a bit more, and the fundamental always turn around this scenarios. When the probability of one event exceeds that of the other, the outcome become more obvious, then we can capitalise on it.

P/S:
Many economists are anticipating FED need to start QE in sept, to finance the govt. Want to see how this will play out.

What has changed in trading gold these days? Are you saying strategies that work in the past no longer work these days? Would love to hear your elaboration.

bulls time to buy ,bears have reached the target 3347.90 (from bears scenario)

it’s not a good idea to be buying now, there’s lots of gaps Down it’s likely price algorithm will keep supporting a bearish move

I am only a forex layman but i can only post my personal experiences.....Sure many systems from old may still work but look at what has happened over the past several years etc re news ....with war conflicts,plus covid etc in various parts of the world and Mr. Trump...When sudden events take place many indicators become worthless and folks lose money but Hey what do I know.

Maybe leaning more towards Bears now, but will assess the conditions after the London Open. Many have already started Shorting (Raising Sell positions). The Range Ladder has started to show stairsteps to Earth. Lol

waiting for reaction at 3344 and 39/ to bottom test ! while eurusd signalling breaks down at 1363 for 37/13 and gbpusd waiting for 3490 testbreaks if . then gold may even hold 3344 and new low possible
usdx likely bounce continue for 99.56 to 80 before resistance next !

Gold is back to where I took my Sell trade profit...Only 32 minutes to London open with NY to come with news so Gold may be a mystery at this point in time.
Bloody Hell where is my Crystal Ball.
