That can happen. Splke up to trap buyers, and then sell off. Maybe first small move down to trap also sellers before the move up to trap buyers. So both are stopped out, and then move accelerates downward, and then those stopped out reenter feeding the movement down. I'm bearish biased, but obviously everything can happen. But after the last two big sells off of last weeks from 2720, I doubt price wants again to move up, at least for some time.

2633 seems have not more support strength and will be easily broken. But at the moment is being protected for some reason, and maintaining the price close to this level.

Lower rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding gold, which doesn’t pay dividends or yield any interest.

You can still see gold rise regardless interest rates being cut or not.
But you're right, sometimes price action prove a lot. Especially this time of the year, when markets doesn't really care about this cut but actually about FED projections for next year.
