Trump still claiming he is "charging" other countries with his tariffs. He may actually not understand how tariffs work. They are paid by importers - by US businesses - who simply increase the price of imported goods accordingly. If there is competition for an item which is also produced in the US, the US producer will increase the price of it to be most competitive with the tariffed item. Black market items like fentanyl will not be affected and will continue to arrive in (or be made in) the US as long as there is demand from American tweakers.

Because someone disagrees that tariffs are an effective means of doing that, it means they're a liberal? Actually, free trade policies used to be a pillar of the Republican platform. How have tariffs on China worked in the last 8 years to get companies to relocate their production from China into the USA? Can you name any? Could be Trump really cares about American workers and wants to see well-paying jobs return to the USA. But, are the jobs that were relocated to China actually good jobs? There are lots of good jobs here now that can not be filled because there are not enough skilled workers to fill them. I rather think Trump is relying on tariffs to generate revenue, because the ugliest word in the English language to Trump is: taxes. But we'll see how it pans out. Most Trump apologists say he is just working the art of the deal and these are just the opening salvos. We'll find out soon enough.

The debate about Trump's tariffs can go on forever, but one thing is for sure, and that's Trump is good for volatility trading. A primary Trump goal is to appear in the public eye and the bigger and flashier the appearance, the better. So he will keep doing the pronouncements via Truth Social and any one of those can move the markets. All a trader can ask for is a market that moves. You just have to be in there and cya lest it get shot off in the news flux...

No, actually tariffs predated free trade by several hundred years. They were the mainstay in international trade at the time of the founding of the United States of America. They were also the means of how the federal government was supposed to be funded in order to stay limited to their constitutional authority. America, being the most competitive nation on earth due to the freedoms espoused in the Constitution and Bill of Rights would, therefore, have the lowest tariffs, thereby keeping the federal government bound financially while eliminating direct taxes on the labor of the citizenry. This was all shot to hell with centralized banking and the printing of endless inflationary money. The creeps mentioned in the video above now rob the people and the states and control leaders through blackmail and nefarious underground operations like sex slavery, drugs, mind control and money cartels.

What if you're wrong? What if you are so blinded by hating the left that maybe you miss the point entirely? Trump is going to extend the tax cuts. The money needs to come from somewhere else otherwise the deficit is going to explode. You can't just borrow into oblivion without any consequences. People work on a salary of 150 a month in a t-shirt factory in China for instance. Do you think that putting 25% tariffs on goods made in China is going to move that factory back to the US? Are you willing to work for 200 dollars a month in a t-shirt factory? The math just doesn't add up. Trump is not charging Canada or Mexico he is charging you because the cost will be passed on to the consumer. Manufacturing will never return to the US unless people are willing to take a massive pay cut. Is just that simple. I have a friend who works in a factory in Romania making Louis Vuitton wallets and bags for a salary of about 500 euros a month. Do you think that putting a 25% tariff on that bag is going to move that factory to the US? The man is smart cause he managed to make people believe that tariffs are being paid by other countries. Countries don't sell anything companies do. All companies take advantage of the cheap labour in that country so that they can sell their products at competitive prices. So far you got away with not paying that tariff because China was shipping to Mexico bypassing the tariff but now there is nowhere around it. Products will be more expensive.

A smart leader would fortify their country's manufacturing base with many levels of support first and then impose tariffs in order to finish the endeavor of gaining the upper hand.

This guy does it the other way around. That means several years of dealing with expensive everything until maybe some manufacturers see it safe to invest in factories or start using US's own raw materials to fill in the gaps. Of course by then, those manufactures will be selling their goods at the already established expensive prices of the day.

On top of that with the mass deportation of cheap labor, the wages will have to be higher too and those additional expenses will be added to the already expensive stuff.

Don't forget that other countries are not going to stand by and watch this. They will be opening new markets and supply routes that will enable them to compete and sell their products elsewhere.

Vlad couldn't have planned it better. Good luck USA.

The real purpose is to lower the amount of imported goods. Which will put pressure on the US and world GDP.
