Always interesting for me to see in the morning what the gang got up to during New York while I sleep here in Aus
So a quick wide angle one hour chart view of where we have come from, to where it last peaked (RN 208.114), to where we are now.

The month of July has one more week of trading to go (till the annual August Summer Holdiays for the big Northern Hemisphere traders)
A triple swap Wednesday today also, so we might get some sideways with a late rise into the new day open tomorrow. Who knows. Just follow the money.

It all just looks like stepping stones to me

Very little sideways yesterday on GJ for a sum total top to bottom of 340 pips in the end wow.

However the (triple swap) buyers did come in strong after London Close Fixing Time for a 75 pip run back up to Day Close
(while I'm sleeping here in Aus as usual )
It is what it is
The market mechanics looked business as usual in the end to me

For turnip I will throw in the DE40 chart from yesterday also, why not.

All the charts in the end look pretty much the same (to me) so trade what we like currencies, indices or metals/oils (and even crypto from an earlier chart I posted)

Congratulations!

Recently I've re-focused some attention on the "Position" charts on the FF main page that show the percentage of FF Live Trading accounts that are Long or Short, by both #Traders and #Lots.

It pretty much shows to just take a trade in the opposite direction!

The EURUSD was not in as extreme a percentage as some other pairs (e.g. NZDUSD, AUDUSD) but still given the strong move upwards in the EU today, it's interesting to see what positions did traders take during this strong move.

Here are snapshots of the EU,H1,Traders; EU,H1,Lots. For reference to a moment in time, about when the big move was setting up, I marked the recent peak at Aug 1 21:00 NY (19:00 local for me which is on the chart).

An Oanda MT4 EU,H1 chart with the same H1 reference time marked by a dotted HLine, plus my own very profitable trade today capturing most of the move (so far). I had other strong reasons to think a Long was setting up, and while the NFP news could have wiped it all out, instead it strongly moved it upwards into more profit.

If you think about what *should* have happened for position sizes, ideally traders should go with the (H1) trend, even if short term, and if the trend is UP, and if traders were trading well, then the percentage of Longs during that move would increase! Yet the Longs steadily decrease, indicating more and more are fighting the trend, trading against it. (I've been guilty, as we all have).

Lower liquidity, higher volatility ????

Yes, I was wondering, too. July and August are sometimes really crazy with big swings but it's a lack of liquidity. The USD/JPY is completely out of mind. Even now, in the last 25 minutes we had 4 up and down swings of more than 30 pips - in the asian session!

I'm not sure what is going on but I can see lots of currencies running in sync like NZD and AUD and weird enough JPY and CHF. CHF is the most crazy move. It must have to be sth. with the carry trades / interest rates. The shift was soo hard last week that these guys who pushed CHF down must pay a fortune everyday now on swap fees. I wonder how long the keep their positions.

We hadn't had moves like that for about 4 years now. It is sad to see that. It ruins currently my performance so i'm a bit pissed. Cheers

Welcome to Andy's (moodybot) Dutchy Thread mate

August is the traditional Summer Holiday break for the Northern Hemisphere where (I was told) many of the bigger traders will take a break. Though the Algos will continue with their programmed moves.

It is not a good time as you mention to get on in the "middles" (if you know what I mean), but scouting the edges still works okay for me then just follow the lead of the current market price move.

I aim daily for just +15p (net, ie incl comms) and only scalp so the swaps are not in my ballpark
I am also asleep during the vibrant NY Open to London Close fixing time period, but usually see each morning there would have bern nice trading opportunities available.

I am aslo a discretionary trader, only playing the market while it is "on the fly" after a breather at an inflection point so I will miss the bigger runs from end to end.
I have long ago released any of my need for greed & just "wanting more" than which I beleive I am capable of getting during my own session based trading,
which can see me buying in Asia and later selling at London if you also know what I mean (I dont trade long trends - whatever they are hahaa).

I have tried to explain to folks what I do but it is not based on any visible "if this happens then do that" type of trading so I could never automate it.
I also say to folks "don;t do what I do" (like in those funny ads 'don"t try this at home kids' hahaa). Each to their own in trading and no one way is best imo.
So no "set" setups for me.
Just trading in & around what I call Trader Attractor lines where I let other traders to get the market moving and then just tag along or play the pullbacks for small pips (which do add up lol - today I took 3 x quick entries that cannot really be viewed for any setup style on a STATIC chart, you need to see the market moving as it moves to grasp any understanding of what I do on the fly).

There are better methods of trading than mine. What I do suits me is all (through hours & hours of practicing on a past event mt4 trade simulator).
I leave plenty on the table but no fomo as the market mechanics will always play out again later in the day imho (session & time & price)

Just how I do it for myself is all. Looks soft against the full price moves but was twice my whole days target and London still to come.

It has been a good morning for trading to & from the attractors (imo)

Before was just before the rollover to this new day (ie yesterday )
(as I was up watching the semi's in the olympic boxing fems, congrats for the gold to the irish collen )

And the after chart, well is now lol
All the price lineups transfered over from the prior day (except the Day PP of course which prints new each morning).
I'm NOT a pivot trader at all though.
But many are. Institutions more so from the weekly & monthly prices lines. I just like to see how price reacts around them is all.

Not all my trades will look clean & neat on paper, some downright ugly, but profitable at the end within the ranges.
Each to their own, it's trading.
