In an interview with Kitco News, Axel Merk, president and chief investment officer of Merk Investments, said that there is no question that gold prices are going higher in this environment. He noted that while the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates by 25 basis points at next week's meet, this tightening cycle has effectively ended.
"They may do one more rate hike to save some face, but the Fed is done," he said. "The ultimate mandate of the Federal Reserve is not inflation and not employment, it's financial stability. The cracks in financial stability are getting wider, so yes, they are done. They can't continue to hike interest rates when the world is on fire."
Merk added that even if there is no new contagion from the failure of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, the Federal Reserve can't afford to continue down its aggressive path. He added that while the broader financial market might be resilient for now, other threats are looming on the horizon.
"When the Federal Reserve is higher for longer, stuff is going to break; it's just a matter of when and where. Stuff is going to break, and everything else is just details," he said.
In this environment, Merk said it is logical to expect gold prices to continue higher. The Federal Reserve is done raising rates and markets pricing in a potential rate cut in June; at the same time, inflation remains significantly elevated. Merk said this scenario will lead to lower real rates, making gold an attractive non-yielding, safe-haven asset.
Don’t focus on making $$$, focus on protecting what you have.

Hey GOLDIs ! I hope all are doing well. Today for me 1903 is support and 1922 resistance. Break of 1922 will take all of us to 1951-1960 and Break of 1903 can approach to 1885-1881 area or more.I may be wrong.trade safe.
We have not to forget 1914 level also...H4 S/R zone.

Do you not think Gold is due a sell off based on fundamentals of Credit Suisse being bailed out? I mean that's the reason for the dip but is it back to technicals from here now?

Good Morning Xauusdscalpr...Actually I strictly follow my trading system always and during the trading I mostly found that although there are any type of the news in the market even red news they also respect all my levels because they are not only Fibonacci levels for me but while I combine them with my trading system and I found very imp supports and resistances in same areas.That's why I only follow my own trading system.All of us believe that market will give us profit or loss nothing else so its better to rely on our trading system with strict RR ratio.Trade safe

I am of the same mindset that gold has retreated because swiss central bank has given the bank a lifeline and has started to ease certain fears that people had that a banking crisis was about to start in the european market. also its been said that the credit suisse sell off was not related to rates whatsoever thereby not a byproduct of the SVB collapse, making it a completely seperate issue..

I think from here its a matter of the markets sentiment? if the market accepts that this was an isolated incident due to the comments of the national saudi bank then it could continue to trend downwards..?

For me only ....1905 is a very imp fibo level 61.8% of yesterdays upswing retracement and 1903 is a H4 support. market move up just before 1905 level recently if this area 1903-1905 will hold then bulls can make their way to 1951-1960 by breaking 1914,1922 & 1932. break of 1903 will provide power to bears but they have to face a huge hurdle of 1899 & 1885 to continue their movement.i may be wrong.Trade safe

hi parveenverma. im waiting for London Open Kill Zone for confirmation. Right now having fun with old lows (little short below 1922). My 1st personal TP target around 1902 (main H4 support). 1914 for now just RBS (minor support)- not so worried. My personal target, im still looking downward retrace around my SSL zone at 1885, 1880, 1871, 1865 and 1853. 1853 is lowest SSL TP target closing all imbalance weekly opening gaps. Its all about retracement target. But im still hoping, there are major buy above old highs (prefer buy stop) between 1902, 1893, 1888, 1882, 1867. Overall trends still bullish and still inside D1, Weekly dan Monthly consolidations (maybe a lot of rejection). thats all for now. trade safe

Hello azhantahir...Nice prediction....For me Break of 1885 will be the trend change signal in M30 & 1H so below 1885 bears zone till 1855 area.....Trade safe.
and we have to keep in mind the 1881 level also....very imp Daily S/R level.

DXY closed higher above 104. for me, gold and btc . a lot of consolidation between two pairs right now. just waiting for opportunities. soon.

I think that the bank's default will create a psychology that makes the gold price increase, more or less. dxy had an uptrend yesterday but I think it's just to fill the gap. Although I want gold to fall, will probably retest the 205x level.

Hi man, I'd rather stay out of BTC whilst battling Gold, BTC is just so volatile, too much range for me. Lol.
