There exists similar provisions in Australian law. To meet the requirements isn't easy, but quite do-able. There have been some cases which have been quite bizarre. This is not so uncommon in estate disputes, but this is off topic - this is for some form of ongoing maintenance from living parents.

Cross jurisdictional legal issues is reasonably settled, I think, known as Conflicts of Law. Probably not too tricky for an experienced lawyer. Noting that the parents have engaged the services of a British QC (QCs are amongst the very best barristers in the UK), so they are taking it pretty seriously. In Australia securing the services of some QCs can cost how long is a piece of string? Tens of thousands of dollars. A day.

Must've been a very colourful argument - could've been worse, I suppose.
