Most people are still dealing with the initial shock of the pandemic. I think as this thing drags on from weeks to months you will see plenty of outrage and hostility directed at china. This and in a more long term notion the recognition that to depend on another nation almost entirely for manufacturing is a very bad idea.

Headlines are trash. How can a news outlet be trusted if they put out a headline like this and then go on in the first paragraph to define a depression as a long term downturn when this Covid mess has had a major effect for a month. Clickbait your name is Mudd.

I dont think you can divorce intent from actions. I agree that consequences should be brought to countries/institutions that attempted to cover-up and downplay the truth about the virus. But there is a difference between malicious intent and institutional incompetence. But like you said, us plebeians will never know the truth.

And no, I am not worries about the "deadliness" of the virus, but the economic consequences, which will kill way more people in the long run.

SARS-Cov-2 has an r0 of about 2.5 which is significant but not much compared to measles, smallpox, polio. I like to wear my tinfoil cap as much as the next guy but viruses have always been with us. Is this very clever Fake News or is there enough here to suggest the 'smoking gun' is not to be found in China? I doubt that any country would deliberately release a bio-weapon unless they had an insane and perverted sense of justice!! That would be really stupid, right? What is the probabilty that China would do such an insane thing? Did they want to reduce world demand for their products? Nah, not likely, duh! Surely, it's either an 'accident' perhaps by some misguided patriots or more likely, in my view, it was coming anyway? Like all other major global pandemics. See Bill Gate's TED talk from 2015 warning about this.

Nobody forced China to become the huge manufacturer for the world it has become. You want to blame somebody/something?

Then blame CAPITALISM. Cheap labor is the reason that China has become a manufacturing monster. Corporations gladly sought out China for their manufacturing because that is what Capitalism does. It seeks out the cheapest costs to generate the highest possible profit. Capitalism is simply economic Darwinism.

Anyone who thinks individuals can band together and somehow hurt China, is a fool. Only if corporations decide to move their manufacturing out of China will China see any backlash from their policies and repression.

China has just fast forwarded the inevitable. This will be a depression have no doubt and unfortunately since we went off the gold standard we entered into neo capitalism, a debt based fiat system which has now reached its limits. Imagine a triangle here, at the top you have the governments, to the left corporates and to the right the banking system. We are now entering a systemic failure of the system. We can certainly print, buy our bonds, buy Companies, buy anything not bolted down but it's all more debt, the bubble has popped, they are now trying to blow air into a balloon that has a hole in it. Trillions upon trillion upon trillions of U.S dollars...Will it work this time?....NO. In 6 months to a year we will now enter into the next gen finance system using the current digital assets that have been developed over many years. Fiat will die, as it should.
