Iraqi parliament passes resolution calling on government to end foreign troop presence

Iraq’s parliament passed a resolution Sunday calling for the government to end the presence of foreign troops in the country in the wake of a U.S. airstrike that killed a top Iranian general. The resolution asks Iraq’s government to cancel the request for assistance from the U.S.-led coalition operating in the country. Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi urged parliament earlier on Sunday to take urgent measures and end the foreign troop presence as soon as possible. “Despite the internal and external difficulties that we might face, it remains best for Iraq on principle and practically,” Abdul Mahdi told ... I always admired Pres. Trump but he was wrong this time. an awful mistake. I didn't expect him. I'm not interested in General Soleimani and current government in Iran. but killing a guest at country who its PM invited him is not correct.

This has significant impact on geopolitical risk for Markets.
That neither Congress nor key US allies with military personnel in Iraq were warned or consulted, of an action that amounts to an Act of War is significant. That it is an initiative that has been considered and rejected so many times in the past as too strategically dangerous, feeds into the narrative that US foreign policy is now reduced to impulsive reaction. The issue of whether Soleimani "had it coming" is irrelevant.

The question is whether the consequences and further destabilisation of the region and escalated risk of direct US-Iranian military confrontation and its impact on US and Allied interests in the region in the next days, week, months are worth this play. Folk searching for rationale, might reflect that it is always possible that the ejection of US forces from Iraq may in fact be part of the Trump strategic playbook. Certainly a great distraction from the impeachment scandal thats currently dominating his domestic agenda.

Sure adds uncertainity and hence investors likely take refuge to gold and it should jump rather my way down towards 1032 and huge areas up there without changing the pa, so this month likely close above 1562 to settle on good sr for next target 1772/1800.so we enter the most risky years as said before. I have not forgotten the long history of Iraq's war with Iran.
Now there is a top Iranian general (with his ability) in Iraq who is organizing something that is said to attack.
Some people in Iraq are reportedly overjoyed at the attack on him. The condition of defense/intelligence in Iraq is very weak at this time.
I hope that there will be no war or attacks especially in Iraq.

That Soleimani was able to roam at will in Iraq and foment an Iranian proxy War against US under the guise of political immunity is a travesty.
All that has happened is Trump called the international supposed alliances on it.

Everyone seems to want it both ways, as long as there is money to be made and the US remained willing to bear the brunt of hostile actions the world was just one happy camper. Well no more.

I understand Iraq not wanting to get in between the US and Iran at this time and that Iraq might get cut loose would have entered the discussion prior to the strike. How much Iraq is willing to get intimidated by Iran remains to be seen. They did very little when it came to containing Iranian backed militias. Iraq may now be heading towards a civil war as outcome between the Two major religious sects.
Big winner is Saudi Arabia and allies of it in Gulf region.

US has now thrown the gauntlet down with Iran and there is no going back. As the US position appears to be that it might need leave Iraq and was willing to do so demonstrates just how serious the situation is and US commitment to this course of action with Iran.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Trump was hot on the heels of Venezuela just a couple of months ago. Venezuela requested protection by Russia and naval vessels and maybe other equipment arrived overnight and Trump backed off immediately. Russia's protection is just a request away. Then it will be between US and Russia which means a wrong move=WW3.

You're right that the U.S. played a huge role in destabilizing the region. But it's VERY important to remember that that was Pre-Trump. Almost everything we've done over there over the past couple decades was OPPOSED by Trump, and he continues to speak out against it. So I believe he'll gladly leave Iraq if asked to do so. I also believe he will continue to pick off Iranian (and other) terrorist leaders one by one. He may even hit a few strategic Iranian targets. What he will NOT do is indiscriminately "bomb Iran" as some idiots on both sides of the political spectrum dream of. He will NOT kill innocent Iranians the way Bush and his buddies did to innocent Iraqis.
