I assume you are taking about ENTRY at the EXACT time of the news release.. If you are talking about trading after.. you might be better doing that manually.. because sometimes market goes THE OPPOSITE as expected... because altough there are some estimations.. people have their estimations in the head also... so if expected change is for example +50, and the market REALLY expect it to be +80.... and the release is +60... market could still go DOWN... (assuming positive correlation... GREATER upside change (over the estimation)->greater upside move)....
Can you afford to take that chance?

If he was, I hope he got the answer.I was part of this at some point... I helped the IT part (setting up the servers etc...). The downside was that they set it up to good so all the alarms went off, but not initially... WS is burning billions now, to set up servers to have as close as INSTANT signal as physically possible... This was about latency...But there is other market that can not be or shouldn't be restricted in any form almost... That is HF trading and one aspect of it is exactly what he was asking/wishing.. that is algorithmic content->trading set-up... HF is a increase business... It is also the most acceptable or somewhat official explanation of at least one flash-crash.. when the program red it wrong and sold something it believe to be toxic.. And one the domino falls, all the other programs, that are programmed to be triggered at the massive downturn (derivative), followed..
That is the reason I focus on fundamentals almost exclusively.. because I am well aware of the power of the programming/modelling..
Usually as soon as some technic/indicator/model gets out... it is obsolete very fast.. That is why I do not share my price prediction model of 10years, because it started simple (KISS - Keep It Simple...) than got very very complicated until it was refined to 1-3 key parameters (outside of direct central bank invervention, ranking downgrade, extraordinary events etc..). I have seen this before.. A few posts about some "edge".. that gets red/copied... could be soon obsolete... That is why I plan to publish (next) TE(s) with crypted trades... that I hope (will) hide the origin ones...This one that I have published (in signature atm) now is pretty random(ised), you could hardly see what was behind the decision(s), (randomised trade) from the original model... I do not underestimate reverse-engineering powers... Many things could be de-crypted from simple trading pattern (tradelist)... specially by experienced math-stat people or some fundamentals that would cross-check...

AND PS: The somewhat sad truth is that all the traders that I knew/know... that were seriously profitable... at least in their timeframe of trading (majority of them quit after some years).. were the ones that found some technical advantage/exploit that is far from the trading we are (I think) talking/hoping here... or what trading is supposed to be, at least advertised as such...
