CME trading challenge is back! There wasn't much interest around here for the last one I did but this one covers more asset classes and has more prizes. Let's see who the best all around trader really is!

Free competition with paid prizes so there's no excuse for all you out there who talk a big game! I'm going for the sweep of 1st overall and every asset class, cool $8,500 for a week's work. Using my FF username so I can brag here when I win .

Edit: Should have read the rules, will have to be satisfied with $2,500 for 1st place I guess.

Very tempting! I'll see if I can invent a good excuse for dedicating the time required.

"All traders will begin with a virtual account of $100,000, with the goal of increasing the balance as much as possible by the conclusion of the competition"

Maaaaaan what is this micky mouse bullshit?!? A trading competition with no money is like a basketball game with no ball. Come on CME.

My snobbery aside, this is a winnable competition for $2,500 or $1,000, but it's not trading skills that'll win the prize. This is the kind of probability game that Phil Ivey would win. Could be fun but it's not my wheelhouse.

Yup, there are limits to what products you can trade and position size limits.

I don't know if they have the capabilities or even want to track live accounts. Maybe FF could do that with their Trade Explorer? Trading skills or not, zero downside besides time commitment to potentially win $2,500 is a good bet to me.

If you're looking for live bullets I think this is the competition a lot of the Market Wizards used to take part in https://financial-competitions.com/

Yup. Good luck getting that top prize. If you want a second account to better your odds, I'd be willing to sign up and give you the creds. All for the low low price of 10% of winnings!

Had this on my mind and came up with a loose strategy...

  1. Determine correlation of tradable markets in relation to a big economic event (ie how does gold, crypto, oil, bonds, etc react to NFP)
  2. Max out in one direction prior to economic event
  3. Close trade with 50% gain or loss (or as close as you can get with max contracts)
  4. Win or lose, keep betting 50% (or as big as possible) on each proceeding economic event
  5. Stop trading when at comfortable winning percentage, or when busted

I'm sure there's a Monte Carlo simulator that could optimize the bet sizes if you really wanted to put some work into it.

I like this idea a lot, here are the high impact events in the challenge timeframe:

I had a similar idea but the goal would be winning the $1k asset class leaderboard instead. Find the correlated assets and max out opposite directions on each asset (ie if gold & bitcoin are highly correlated go max long gold & max short bitcoin). You won't win overall but you'll have a good chance at winning an individual asset class.

It's all browser based so I don't see why not. Haven't tried it myself though.

Looks fun - I signed myself up. Hopefully I didn't already miss the ship since I wasn't around to open trades right when the challenge started. Whatever it is I trade for this challenge, I'll be maxing out risk in the demo account
