EF5 replied Aug 24, 2019I agree. If this is the beginning of the next metals bull market then there certainly could be a 100% gain ahead for gold. I think it takes awhile though, probably 3-5 years. If I'm not mistaken, gold's best days will be after the next recession.

EF5 replied Aug 24, 2019Yep, I kind of get the sense we might have continuation. Trump made it clear this trade war will get ugly and everyone wanted to bail on risk positions. There's not enough liquidity for everyone to reposition in one day.

EF5 replied Aug 23, 2019One of the more important events to unfold today was China specifically targeting US oil for a tariff. Whomever was long Brent and short WTI made out well today!

EF5 replied Aug 23, 2019I'm sure nobody is surprised, but judging by the dow it looks like we're in store for a sizable gap higher on gold at the open: image

EF5 commented Aug 22, 2019I think the market overreacted to this. Harker doesn’t even vote this year. Powell’s speech tomorrow is all that really matters.
Yield curve inverts briefly once again on fears the Fed won’t save the economy

EF5 commented Aug 22, 2019Good article, but I question the assumption that higher oil is bad for the economy. That’s historically been true, but with shale now it might actually be a positive. If it does cause a recession, it might work like this: Higher oil > higher ...

EF5 replied Aug 22, 2019I did some research on the weekly EIA Nat Gas Storage Change today. I found out the EIA actually publishes the 5y historical average storage levels. I decided to plot 2019 weekly storage changes against the 5y averages and saw they're remarkably ...

EF5 replied Aug 22, 2019Truth be told, I don't understand this one either. Better than expect and crude dove? That's very strange. I guess the whisper number in the pit was for an even bigger draw.

EF5 replied Aug 22, 2019Weird reaction today. It almost looked like one big market order fired off and then NG went right back down. Glad I didn't participate in this one!
Nat Gas anyone?

EF5 commented Aug 22, 2019Powell can't be fired. There's more than one way to stimulate the economy. If the Fed won't cut 100bps like Trump wants, he could push for lower taxes or fiscal stimulus. I think that's what to watch for, not an attempt to fire the fed chief.

EF5 replied Aug 21, 2019Right now I think gold might stay in this consolidation phase until Jackson Hole. Powell's speech on Friday could be a big one and we might see gold finally take a direction after that.

EF5 replied Aug 21, 2019Thanks for sharing darko2010! You make some great points, but I think platinum may not be our best near-term bet for two reasons. As a semi-industrial metal, it will see loss of demand if we're going into a recession. As you said, it has ...

EF5 replied Aug 21, 2019I was specifically talking about weather models using machine learning. If so, they'll evolve over time and whatever edge that might exist will change. If the relationship isn't static it just adds a degree of difficulty, not saying I won't try it! ...

EF5 replied Aug 21, 2019I'm pretty new to energy, but so far I've found nat gas to be by far the most interesting since it's kind of a play on weather. I'm working on putting together a strategy now.
