Gold In Contact Lenses Helps Shield Eyes From Damaging Light -- Study
A new study has discovered that tiny amounts of gold in contact lenses can shield eyes from damaging light. The technology employed in these new type of contact lenses is able to convert heavy light into energy through gold-based plasmonic nanoresonators and safely distribute that energy into the eyes. “The ability of the Au nanocomposites to act as efficient light concentrators renders this approach a cost-effective alternative to other less absorbing formulations which may also be toxic or degradable upon light irradiation,” stated the study published in the journal Applied Materials Today in June.
