Researchers from the University of Witwatersrand’s School of Geoscience have published research on South Africa’s platinum deposits in the Bushveld Complex, which posits a more likely explanation for how platinum forms. The scientific research report, published in the Nature international journal of science, states that most of the world’s economically-viable platinum deposits occur as ‘reefs’ in layered intrusions – thin layers of silicate rocks that contain sulphides enriched in platinum group elements which are so vital for the sustainable development of modern human society.
