Intervention will only work if the BOJ operates in tandem and possibly Washington too - then it will be a meaningful. If it is more a covert operation (as the Japanese indicated) it will also have greater impact .

There's nothing we can do. The U.S. dollar is getting stronger while the Japanese yen is becoming weaker. Because of the Iran war, Japan's oil reserves are also being depleted, forcing the country to buy oil at higher prices than usual. This puts additional pressure on the yen, causing it to weaken even further.

How the hell did the yen weaken to 163 when my MT4 chart shows it only hit 162 on june 30th and hasn't gone above that since only today did it @163. Or should I ask, if a currency goes up is it weakening

USDJPY ... if price moves up, USD is being bought and JPY is being sold. JPY depreciates against USD (weaker Yen), if USDJPY is dropping, USD is sold and JPY gets bought (stronger Yen).

True....but the tagline "raising the risk of intervention" is a little redundant. It's not "wrong", but has been the same message since 160 (in other words, for the past month).

One of these days something will happen. Intervention? a breakdown to 165/168/170? Time will tell.

This. With oil rising, intervention becomes harder. One would have thought the BOJ move could have transpired on the recent drop in oil, to really accelerate the move. They must have thought (hoped) things would move the 'toght' way organically. Oops.
