America has always been like that; just look at Vietnam vs. Iraq.

No need for tech development, American infrastructure is incredibly exposed and vulnerable and has been literally forever. Totally impossible to protect it.

And yet somehow all the so-called terrorists of the world haven't noticed this or taken advantage of it. It's almost like all those enemies out there that every administration says are coming to get y'all, they just aren't very motivated to do bad stuff to Americans.

US citizens haven't really noticed that nobody is attacking them. They are well-conditioned to break a sweat when someone in a suit yells 'terrorist!', and never mind that the terrorists only show up in tv and movies. That's close enough! Scramble the bombers!

The problem with that argument is that you only have to look back to 9/11/2001 to understand the answer. There has never been a more cohesive sentiment by this country to "go get them" (perhaps other than after Pearl Harbor).

Attacking the US directly would unite lawmakers and citizens to aggressively pursue the attackers. As things stand today, the factions are very much split, which helps keep resources at bay. Otherwise, we would have seen a full-scale ground invasion having taken place long ago along with global support....similar to the situations in the past.

Conspiratorially, I am rather surprised this hasn't happened yet (not on American soil, but something tangible that causes the country to unite behind the president.....Gulf of Tonkin style) in an attempt to rally support.

If America ceases to be the global superpower at some point in the future, you can bet hesitancy to attack here will be removed in a big way.

In the 250-year history of the US, they have been at war for 231 years, and yet they try and convince the rest of the world that they are the good guys.

It's a nice thought, but they wouldn't take losing their biggest leverage lying down. There must have been warnings, which is why this hasn't happened already. There was a delicate status quo that was being managed.
