Iran has everything to gain by dragging out the conflict until mid-term elections. American voters will watch for months as more billions of their dollars are spent on this useless war, and they'll really be pissed when oil inventories that are already at record lows finally tap out, and fuel prices go vertical.

Donnie is going to need a very long list of excuses for why the war drags on, and none of them will prevent voters from taking away his majority in the House and Senate. Iran sees an opportunity to turn the Trump administration into a lame duck presidency for the rest of the term, and they're damn sure going to make the most of it.

The US is in for a very bumpy ride when their demented president is rendered powerless to change law. His psychology can't deal with that, he will go full dictator to the greatest extent he can manage, to compensate.

How much damage to your economy would you tolerate to effectively ensure that the guy bombing your country loses the power to do so?

A temporary blockade is irrelevant when they are in a position to negotiate removal or reduction of sanctions that have been in place for many years.
