US construction spending up 0.4% in April
Construction spending in the United States totaled $2.17 trillion in April, up by 0.4% compared to the previous month's revised figure, the US Census Bureau revealed in a report on Monday. On an annual basis, the figure advanced 0.9%. Spending on private construction reached $1.64 trillion, 0.4% higher than the revised March reading. Residential construction increased by 0.8% to $909 billion in April, while nonresidential construction declined 0.2% to $729 billion. Public construction was $533 billion, 0.4% higher than last month's figure.
