Canada is not running any government surpluses. According to the fall economic update presented by Mark Carney, the projected deficit for 2026 is $65 billion, declining to $51 billion by 2031.
So this isn’t a matter of opinion—it’s publicly available information from the Canadian government.
Canada also maintains foreign exchange reserves for a reason: to facilitate the purchase of foreign goods and manage currency stability. If those reserves are drawn down, they need to be replenished, and that replenishment is typically financed through debt.
On top of that, Canada sold off its gold reserves at around $1,274 per ounce and now holds no gold reserves.Just another brilliant liberal idea.

The LNG Canada project in Kitimat, BC received about $6.6 billion in subsidies and is projected to generate roughly $575 million in annual revenue. With natural gas royalties ranging from 9–15%, even at the high end that’s about $86 million per year—meaning it would take roughly 76 years to recover the initial subsidy, not including any interest costs on the borrowed funds used to finance it.

On top of that, there’s roughly $103 billion in tax credits committed to Stellantis to support EV production in Canada which failed. At that point, it raises broader questions about spending priorities—especially when public funds are also being directed toward smaller or more controversial initiatives. Like cricket farms and tampons in the men’s bathrooms.
