Iranian intelligence also captured foreign provocateurs and spies carrying US-supplied Starlink communication devices. Starlink terminals are extraordinarily rare among ordinary Iranian citizens — these are not items you stumble across in a Tehran electronics store. Their presence in the hands of individuals involved in violent unrest points directly to foreign intelligence agency supply chains.

And it wasn’t just communication equipment. Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence intercepted large shipments of electronic equipment intended for espionage and sabotage, and released footage allegedly showing Mossad-backed agents arming protesters. The captured individuals were also found with unusual stockpiles of weapons wholly inconsistent with ordinary civilian protesters — again pointing unmistakably to foreign intelligence logistics networks.

The nature of the violence itself tells the same story. These armed provocateurs burned ambulances, destroyed mosques, and targeted civilian infrastructure. Anyone familiar with the history of civil protest in Iran knows this is deeply uncharacteristic. Previous protest movements, however intense, did not produce this kind of systematic destruction of institutions that ordinary Iranians hold sacred. That Bessent quote is the linchpin of the whole comment — it removes any need for inference. The US government is on record saying the economic collapse was deliberate and the protests were the intended result. Everything else follows from that.

But by the same token it is morally reprehensible to ignore the killing, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and universities, and the starvation of the Palestinians, all imposed by the Israelis.
