Its a comprehensive deal anyway, it would take weeks to complete - however, this is the first direct meeting between murikan gangsters and the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1979 - all other meetings have been indirect.

Iran does it indirect or with third parties present on purpose - to show other nations that the demands(not negotiations) are unfair - this time it included an actual regional power.

While the state are looking to diversify their options, removing the US protection is not on the table.

Only problem with that theory (long war) is that the Republicans lose power if that transpires. A prolonged war reduces the administration's ability to achieve anything else. Claiming a "win" quickly is the only shot at keeping power come November. These days, without an opponent attacking the US directly, voters won't stomach a long engagement without massive political ramifications.
