3: Prior to the revolution, Venezuela oil was basically being stolen by international companies such as Exxon, Chevron, Conoco philips etc, it was an unfair deal under any standard, with an elite that basically were bribed to legitimize the theft - these small groups of Venezuelan elites, lived lavishly, while majority of Venezuelans were living in slums, under horrible conditions - the revolution had popular support.

It is legal under international law to re-negotiate deals, especially when a new constitution is written!

4: Under the new constitution, there was a requirement where a share of revenue of oil would be split with a nationalized Venezuelan oil company.

5: Exxon refused, Philips conoco, refused, Chevron agreed, the former left, the lather stayed.
6: Much of the oil infrastructure was built by the brits, way earlier, these new companies only maintained and upgraded existing infrastructure.

7: Exxon and philip conoco sued, Venezuelen funds held internationally/US banks were seized, philip conocco was paid almost all of its money, Exxon was paid less, its still owed some money, however since than, Venezuela have been under sanctions - with small periods were sanctions are removed and re-instated, making it impossible to pay back or even develop.

* Venezuela under Chavez and Maduro have always maintained open channels to resume relations with US and these companies, under the new constitutions, they were willing to work out a fair deal, because being under sanctions was a loss for Venezuela as well, its not like they could extract the oil themselves while being under sanctions *

Trump 2.0 did not campaign on asserting US military dominance in the Western hemisphere or taking over and "running" other sovereign nations by force. In fact, he was anti-war and anti- foreign intervention.
