    The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today that the goods and services deficit was $59.6 billion in August, down $18.6 billion from $78.2 billion in July, revised. table August exports were $280.8 billion, $0.2 billion more than July exports. August imports were $340.4 billion, $18.4 billion less than July imports. The August decrease in the goods and services deficit reflected a decrease in the goods deficit of $18.1 billion to $85.6 billion and an increase in the services surplus of $0.5 billion to $26.1 billion. The trade balance since Trump arrived (2016 or whatever) has plummeted. It's called shooting yourself in the foot by increasing tariffs on essentials. This chart from 2016 up until now shows that, errrrm clear as day:
